Police patrols respond swiftly as dangerous drifting clips spread online
DUBAI – A tourist has been arrested in Dubai after being caught performing dangerous drifting stunts with a rented BMW on Sheikh Zayed Road, one of the busiest highways in the emirate.
Videos circulating on social media showed the individual engaging in high-risk manoeuvres that endangered both his life and the safety of other road users.
Dubai Police said patrol units responded immediately once the footage surfaced, identifying and apprehending the driver. Dubai Police also released the video on their official platform, reminding the public that reckless driving captured online will be investigated, and violators will be traced and arrested.
Authorities have emphasised that such conduct represents a serious traffic violation and is met with strict penalties under UAE law.
According to Dubai Police, the stunt involved reckless driving on a major highway where any loss of control could have resulted in significant harm. Officers highlighted that ensuring public safety remains a top priority, and that both residents and visitors must comply with traffic regulations. Police also reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on behaviour that jeopardises lives.
Heavy penalties
The violation falls under the offence of “Driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers one’s own life or the lives, safety, or security of others”. Penalties include a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points, and vehicle impoundment. In this case, the rented BMW was seized for 60 days.
